If you're just getting into trail riding, we recommend a hardtail. It's lighter, requires less maintenance, and teaches you to ride cleanly — because you'll learn to read the line instead of relying on suspension travel. A full-suspension bike is only worth it once you're regularly riding more technical trails with roots and steps.

It depends on the terrain. If you mostly ride flat to gently rolling trails, a standard hardtail is sufficient — and you’ll learn faster because you’re doing all the work yourself. If you’re riding in mountainous terrain or planning longer rides with significant elevation gain, an e-hardtail will give you significantly more range and make riding uphill much more enjoyable.

Three things make the biggest difference: First, the suspension fork — with at least 100 mm of travel and a lockout, you’re well-equipped. Second, hydraulic disc brakes that provide reliable stopping power even in wet conditions. And third, a drivetrain with a wide gear range (e.g., Shimano Deore 1x12) so you can find the right gear whether you’re going uphill or downhill. A good hardtail with solid components will easily last you 2–3 years, even as your skill level improves.
